Although he is only set to debut for the Polish national team next year, Wilfredo Leon made sure to participate in the team’s WCH campaign in every way he could. He took part in training with the team prior to the competition, regularly visited his teammates, and sent them motivating messages before the games. It is to be expected then that he would be deeply moved by the team’s golden campaign. He celebrated the title on Instagram (albeit with Kawhi Leonard kind of emotional celebration – video at the end of the article):

Leon is widely celebrated as the best player in the world. A Cuban natural, he defected from the country in 2012 to play in Russia. Before that, he had already won silver at the 2010 World Championship with the Cuban squad at only 17 years of age. He decided to become a naturalized Polish citizen after marrying his Polish wife Małgorzata Leon.
