Rhode Island High School volleyball playoffs came to end on November 19, 2016 at Rhode Island College. Rhode Island’s high school playoffs are divided into three different divisions labeled 1, 2, and 3 and are categorized by wins verses losses every season and are subject to change every season.
Barrington High Eagles won Division II state champions in 2015 and in 2016 they took the title win for Division I against North Kingston in a sweep for the first time in school’s history. North Kingstown was the only school to beat Barrington during the regular season and this was the program’s first back-to-back championship appearances since 1998 and 1999.
Barrington high school finished their season with an overall record of 20-2 which left them ranked #1 in the state and 6-0 in their league. Senior setter Noelle Cooke totaled 30 assists during the final match while fellow senior captain Anna Wilson had 7 kills.
North Kingstown finished with an overall 19-3 season leaving them ranked #3 in the state.
Cranston East swept North Smithfield for the Division 2 state title for the first time in school’s history with an undefeated season. Cranston East went 9-0 in league play and 16-1 in their overall season and left them ranked #2 in the state.
Cranston East’s junior outside hitter Jane Owen had 10 kills during the final match. Cranston East had 6 seniors playing in the final game which gave them a big advantage over the two seniors that North Smithfield had.
North Smithfield finished their season with an overall record of 10-7 season and left them ranked #11 in the state.
Rogers became the Division 3 state title winner for the first time in 32 years with a 15-0 league season against Shea High School. Rogers finished with a 16-2 overall season and left ranked #5 in the state. Shea had a 12-5 overall season and 6-1 during the regular season leaving them ranked #13 in the state.
Emma Robertson, the senior outside hitter for Rogers, had 8 kills during the final match while Jordan Lombard led the team with 9 kills. Jana Tolich produced 6 kills and 8 blocks.
