Amidst No. 6 Ohio State’s five-set victory over No. 8 Lewis in the MIVA Semifinals, senior outside hitter Nicolas Szerszen became the Buckeyes’ all-time kills leader.

With his fourth termination of the night, the Conflans Ste Hne, France, native tied Steve Potter (1992-95) for the record at 1,602.

Szerszen ended the night with 15 putaways to move his career-record tally to 1,613. The senior also boasts the Ohio State record for aces (228) and points (1,953).

Szerszen has had a standout senior year, becoming the first student-athlete in MIVA history to earn three Player of the Year honors. Coming into Wednesday’s match, the senior was hitting .385 for the season, the second-best hitting percentage in the country among non-middle hitters.

The outside hitter earned MIVA Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks, March 20 and 27, moving his career league awards total to 11 (10 offensive, one defensive).

For the season, Szerszen has posted 342 kills (3.68 kills per set) and has served up 50 aces. Defensively, he has notched 201 digs (2.16 per set) and put up 35 blocks.

The Buckeyes (22-5) have at least one more match ahead of a potential NCAA Tournament berth, facing off against No. 2 seed Loyola in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday for the MIVA Tournament title. Ohio State ranks seventh in the latest RPI rankings.
