In what was Italy’s 500th world level victory, the team rode a balanced scoring effort and strong net play to a four-set win over China to kick off VNL Week 4. Twelve blocks and 32 Korean miscues gifted Australia a four-set win on Friday.
Australia ended its three-match losing streak by registering a five-set win over Germany, making good on 40 German miscues in the upset.
It wasn’t perfect, with 29 miscues plaguing the team, but the United States bested Australia in every way in a four-set win to bounce back after two devastating losses.
Serbia moved its third straight five-set match in as many days, holding on for the victory over Australia behind Dusan Petkovic. Meanwhile, Egor Kliuka and Dmitriy Muserskiy proved too much for Bulgaria to handle as the team fell to Russia in a sweep.
Russia took advantage of 36 Australian errors and boasted an 11-4 lead in blocks in a four-set win on Friday. Forty Bulgarian errors helped fuel Serbia in a five-set comeback victory.
