The world’s premier female volleyball domestic tournament started with a bang in Italy
The star of the show thus far in the World Championships has been Italy’s Paola Egonu. The 19-year old has notched 182 total points (150 kills, 17 blocks, 15 aces) and also ranks among the top 10 in aces and kills.
The draw for the 3rd round of the FIVB Women’s World Championship features Italy, Japan and Serbia in Pool G and Netherlands, China and the United States in Pool H. Matches are set to begin on Oct. 14 in Noppon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan.

The 2nd-ranked United States outlasted a tough 5th-ranked Russia squad to finish Pool C action with a 5-0 mark inside Kobe Green Arena Thursday. The loss drops the Russians to 4-1 at the FIVB World Championship.
Eight of the 12 matches on Wednesday were decided in straight sets and five teams claimed spots in the FIVB Women’s World Championships second round.
2nd-ranked United States squeaked by 16th-ranked Thailand, which was down a starter and lost its top scorer amidst the 4th set, in 5 to remain undefeated in Pool C play Wednesday.
With Tuesday victories, 5th-ranked Russia and 2nd-ranked USA qualified for second round action at the 2018 FIVB World Championship. 16th-ranked Thailand also notched a win, overcoming a key injury to get past Trinadad and Tobago in 4 sets.
