VolleyMob Player of the Week: Hawaii’s Stijn van Tilburg

This week’s VolleyMob Player of the Week put up some big numbers against in a pair of Top Five matchups. Hawaii’s Stijn van Tilburg averaged 6.00 kills and 1.50 digs per set, while hitting .418 in a pair of matches against No. 5 UC Irvine. The junior outside hitter downed 21 kills and added five digs, two blocks and an ace, while hitting .372 in Friday’s four-set win. The Amsterdam, Netherlands, native then posted a career-high 27 kills, seven digs and a block, while hitting at a .458 clip in Sunday’s four-set loss to the Anteaters. His efforts not only earned him VolleyMob Player of the Week honors, but also Big West Player of the Week nods. 

 

Honorable Mention:

Brad Gretsch, Harvard – Sr., MB/OH
Averaged 4.00 kills and 1.13 digs per set, while hitting .455 in road wins over Princeton and NJIT; recorded 13 kills, seven digs and a block, while hitting .409 in a sweep of Princeton; tallied his first career double-double with 19 kills, 10 digs and four blocks, while hitting .500 in a five-setter against NJIT

 

Aaron Koubi, UC Irvine – Sr., OH
Averaged 4.12 kills and 1.25 digs per set, while hitting .500 in a pair of matches against No. 3 Hawaii; notched a season-high 17 kills, while hitting .500 and adding five digs and three blocks in Friday’s loss; tallied 16 kills, while hitting .500 with five digs and a block in Sunday’s four-set win; made good on 47 of 49 serve receive chances on the weekend

 

Jonathan Predney, Concordia-Irvine – Sr., OH
veraged 4.08 kills, while hitting .350 in three wins; tallied 12 kills, two blocks and an ace in a sweep of Grand Canyon, while hitting .393; posted 11 kills, three digs, two blocks and two aces, while hitting .259 in a four-set victory over USC; racked up 26 kills, while hitting .400 to go with four blocks, four digs and three aces in a five-set win over Cal State Northridge

 

Josh Tuaniga, Long Beach State – Jr. S
Averaged 14.25 assists and 3.25 digs per set in a four-set win over No. 2 UCLA; notched 57 assists, 13 digs and two kills, while helping the team to a .408 hitting effort

 

David Wieczorek, Pepperdine – RS Jr., OH
Averaged 3.38 kills, 1.25 digs and 1.25 blocks per set, while hitting .367 and making good on 54 of 55 serve reception chances in wins over UC Santa Barbara and UCLA; notched 14 kills, seven digs, six blocks and three aces, while hitting .314 in a five-set win over No. 13 UCSB; added 13 kills, five blocks, four aces and three digs, while hitting .440 in a sweep of No. 2 UCLA; made good on all 31 serve reception chances against UCSB, while going 23 for 24 against the Bruins; MPSF Player of the Week for third straight week
