#1 Ohio State is still dominating the MIVA division and is still undefeated in overall season play so far and defeating Lewis University marked their 35th consecutive overall win dating back to over a year ago with the last loss on Feb. 6, 2016. This marks the longest winning streak in OSU athletics.

Ohio State as a team had 59 kills and a .485 attacking percentage with Miles Johnson leading the team with 19 kills while Nicolas Szweszen hit a team-high of 8 digs and 3 aces.

Lewis University’s Trevor Weiskircher had a team high of 9 kills and added on 4 digs while Kyle Bugee had 8 kills and 4 digs in the match.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Ohio State University men’s volleyball team picked up its 12th win of the season, third in MIVA play and 35th consecutive overall dating back over a year with the last loss coming on Feb. 6, 2016. Thursday night, Ohio State (12-0, 3-0 MIVA) overpowered the 6th-ranked Flyers of Lewis University (8-3, 3-2 MIVA) with a .485 team hitting percentage on 59 total kills.

The Buckeyes downed Lewis by an average hovering above 10 points per in the three victorious sets (25-13, 20-25, 25-14, 25-17).

Driss Guessous, Miles Johnson and Nicolas Szerszen were a three-headed monster, combining for 44 kills as each attacked .533 or better individually. Johnson paced the squad with both 19 kills and a .593 hitting percentage. Szerszen led in a pair of statistical categories as well, posting team-high eight digs and three aces. Maxime Hervoir joined the aforementioned trio with double-digit points, stuffing the stat sheet with seven kills, five blocks (2s, 3a) and an ace.

Set 1: The Buckeyes finished the opening frame on a flurry, landing 12 of the final 13 points to close out a 25-13 winner. A kill from Lewis’ Ryan Coenen pulled the Flyers to within one tally at 13-12 before Ohio State ripped off five straight, surrendered a lone point, and then again got hot with seven more in a row as freshman Dejon Clark manned an extended stay at the service stripe.

Set 2: Neither side could muster an advantage greater than two points until a 4-0 Flyer run late in the set ultimately pulled Lewis ahead 21-17. That edge would increase to five points by set’s end in a 25-20 equalizer for the Flyers heading to intermission.

Set 3: Johnson and Szerszen each contributed a half dozen kills on seven errorless attempts as the Buckeyes left little doubt in the third. Ohio State was up 9-1 before anyone could blink and widened the gap to as many as 12 points at 22-10. The Buckeyes stepped up defensively, as well, stuffing Lewis four times in taking the frame, 25-14.

Set 4: Ohio State strung together yet another long run in the fourth, going from down 8-7 to up 12-8 on five consecutive winners. The Buckeyes piled it on from there, doubling the edge to eight points at 19-11 and again for the clincher, 25-17.

St. John Arena will showcase another session of elite men’s collegiate volleyball Saturday (Feb. 11) night at 7 p.m. ET when the No. 1 Buckeyes square off against No. 10 Loyola.

Columbus, Ohio – Top-ranked Ohio State University hit .485 (59 kills, 11 errors, 99 attacks) as a squad to earn the 25-13, 20-25, 25-14, 25-17 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association win over the No. 6 Lewis University men’s volleyball team at St. John Arena on Thursday (Feb. 9) night.

Lewis had a hitting percentage of .263 (44-18-99), including a .577 (16-1-26) outing in the second set.

With the win, Ohio State improves to 12-0 overall and 3-0 in MIVA action, while the Flyers fall to 8-3 on the campaign and 3-2 in conference play.

Lewis senior outside hitter Trevor Weiskircher (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) topped the Flyers with nine kills and finished with a hitting percentage of .389 (9-2-18).

Flyer sophomore Matt Yoshimoto (Ventura, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) nearly missed a double-double with a team-best 32 assists and nine digs, while redshirt senior middle blocker Jacob Schmiegelt (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) paced Lewis with three block assists.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 11), as they head to Lebanon, Ill., for a 7 PM first serve against McKendree.
