The Netherlands blew out their foe, with both teams coming off of big Friday wins. The Dutch led in every major statistical category, including a 12-1 edge in blocks and an 8-2 margin in service aces.

Wouter Ter Maat had 19 points on his own and Robbert Andringa 10 for the Netherlands.

Meanwhile the Czechs didn’t have a single player crack double digits, with Jan Hadrava‘s 9 points leading the team. The Czech team is now one point behind Egypt in the pool with a match against winless Portugal coming up on Sunday.

Egypt def. Portugal 3-2 (25-16, 25-17, 19-25, 21-25, 19-17)

Egypt rolled up two quick sets on Portugal, but then fell all the way to an extra-points fifth set before emerging with its first win of the pool. Egypt won on superior blocks (7-3) and serves (87), but the key was 42 errors for Portugal compared to just 29 for Egypt.

Mohamed Masoud and Ahmed Shafik each had 15 points for Egypt, two of four players to crack double digits. Ahmed Abdelhay and Hassan Omar each had 13.

Portugal had the match’s highest scorer, with Lourenco Martins putting up 19. But the errors added up to kill the Portuguese comeback. Still, both teams earn points for the five-setter.
