  • World League Round 2
  • Schedule/Results

Defending World League champions Serbia looks to avenge its lone loss in this year’s World League as they face Belgium in a clash of two of the top four teams in the Group 1 table.

Serbia’s only defeat so far in the 2017 World League came against the Belgian side, and it happened in three sets. Since that point, Serbia has won its last three matches while conceding just two sets. That includes yesterday’s four set win over Iran. Overall, they’re 2-0 in Pool D1 as they lead the pool with six points. Additionally they’re sitting comfortably at third in the overall Group 1 standings with 12 total points.

Belgium on the other hand has been a bit of a surprise, as they’ve already mustered up as many wins in the 2017 World League as they had in the entire 2016 edition. Although they lost to Iran, because they did so in five sets and Iran fell in four to Serbia, Belgium is currently second with three points in Pool D1 after their five-setter with Argentina yesterday (with Iran in third at two points). Belgium opened in week one at 2-1 and in total has amassed 10 points, which places them fourth in the overall Group 1 standings and at a relatively comfortable distance ahead of fifth.

Belgium out-blocked Serbia 9-4 in the meeting last weekend as Serbia recorded 15 more attack errors. Bram Van Den Dries, the Group 1 leader in points, had 13 in the match.

Belgium will try to attain a similar result to the first meeting while Serbia will look for the match to more so mimic the 2016 meeting in Olympic qualifying when Serbia won 3-1.

Serbia vs. Belgium starts at 9:40 Eastern Time in the U.S., and can be watched, for free, in its entirety below:
