Make It Three: Cincinnati’s Thompson Garners Third VolleyMob Player of the Week Nod

There were two monster performances that stood out above the rest, but an all around effort and two conference records gave Cincinnati’s Jordan Thompson the edge and her third VolleyMob Player of the Week nod this season.

Thompson averaged 8.33 kills and 2.67 digs per set, while hitting .587 and becoming the American Athletic Conference’s all-time season record holder for kills (660) and points (729.5). The redshirt junior outside hitter posted 24 kills and five digs while hitting .611 against Wichita State. She then downed 26 kills in a sweep of Tulsa, the most in a three-set match in league history, while hitting .564 and adding 11 digs and two blocks en route to her sixth American Athletic Conference Player of the Week nod.

The defensive standout performance of the week came from Bradley’s Yavianliz Rosado, who notched 8.86 digs per set, putting her in the top spot among our Week 11 Honorable Mention honorees.

Torrey Van Winden, Cal Poly – Jr., Opp.

Averaged 6.33 kills and 4.00 digs per set while hitting .362; posted 21 kills, 11 digs and two aces, while hitting .375 against UC Irvine; tacked on 17 kills and 13 digs while hitting .350 vs. UCSB; made good on all 17 serve reception tries; Big West Player of the Week

Payton Caffrey, Florida State – Jr., OH

Averaged 6.50 kills and 1.88 digs per set, while hitting .410 in wins over Notre Dame and Louisville; notched 24 kills, eight digs, a block and an ace while hitting .367 in a four-set win over Notre Dame; tacked on 28 kills, seven digs and three blocks while hitting .446 in a four-set win over Louisville; made good on 26 of 27 serve reception tries (96.2 percent); ACC Player of the Week

Jordan Pingel, UCF – Sr., L

Averaged 6.71 digs per set and made good on 96.7 percent of her serve reception chances; posted 24 digs and five assists at UConn; notched 23 digs and seven assists at Temple; American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Becky Porter, Appalachian State – Sr., S

Averaged 13.50 assists, 2.50 digs and 1.17 kills per set as team hit .299 in a pair of sweeps; posted 39 assists, eight digs and three kills as team hit .290 (48-17-107) against Georgia State; added 42 assists, seven digs and four kills as team hit .309 (49-15-110) against Georgia Southern

Averaged 5.88 kills and 1.75 blocks per set, while hitting .471 against Minnesota and Michigan; notched a career-best 30 kills vs. Minnesota, hitting .560 and adding three digs and four blocks in a four-set loss, while snapping the program’s 25-point rally scoring record; posted 17 kills, 10 blocks and three digs, while hitting .343 in a four-set loss to Michigan; Big Ten Player of the Week

Shannon Scully, Pepperdine – So, OH

Averaged 4.75 kills and 4.12 digs per set, while hitting .349 and making good on all 29 serve reception chances; downed 12 kills and added 13 digs while hitting .294 in a sweep of Saint Mary’s; tacked on career high 26 kills, career best 20 digs, two blocks and an ace, while hitting .385 and converting all 27 serve reception tries in a five-set loss to Pacific.

Savannah Thompson, Central Michigan – Fr., OH

Averaged 4.00 kills and 4.50 digs per set, while hitting .377 in wins over Ball State and Toledo; notched 12 kills and 10 digs while hitting .435 vs. BSU; added 12 kills and 17 digs on a .333 hitting effort vs. Rockets; MAC East Offensive Player of the Week

Tami Alade, Stanford – Sr., MB

Averaged 2.38 blocks per set, while hitting .588 in wins over Colorado and Utah; posted school rally scoring record with 15 blocks vs. the Buffs, while downing eight kills and hitting .727 (8-0-11); added three kills and four blocks, while hitting .333 vs. the Utes; Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week
