Stanford Men’s Volleyball Set for 12 Home Matches in 2018

The No. 9 Stanford men’s volleyball team has released its 2018 slate, beginning with a fall tournament at USC on Nov. 11, and including 12 home matches.

After the warm up event in Los Angeles, the team will face Calgary in a pair of matches, Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 at Maples Pavilion.

The Cardinal return home on Jan. 17 when Cal State Northridge comes to Palo Alto. The home slate includes nine more matches as Stanford plays host to Long Beach State (Jan. 20) and BYU (Feb. 21) before notching seven straight home tilts from March 1 to March 31. Stanford will welcome UCLA, Pepperdine, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, USC, Grand Canyon and Concordia during the stretch. Grand Canyon is a newly minted member of the Division I men’s field.

Road matches vs. UCLA and Pepperdine wrap up the regular season campaign on April 5 and April 6.

Three matches are slated to air on the Pac-12 Network: Feb. 8 at USC, Feb. 21 vs. BYU and April 5 at UCLA.

Stanford is coming off a 13-13 campaign, including an 8-10 mark in MPSF league play. The Cardinal ended their season in the MPSF quarterfinals against NCAA runnerup BYU.

Senior libero Evan Enriques and redshirt senior middle Kevin Rakestraw are back after earning AVCA honorable mention All-America honors, while Rakestraw earned second team MPSF honors. Junior outside hitter Jordan Ewert and Enriquez garnered honorable mention all-league accolades, while setter Paul Bischoff was an all-freshman team selection.

Rakestraw ranked third nationally with a .433 hitting percentage, while Enriques was 13th in digs per set (2.36).

As a team, the Cardinal were 13th nationally in kills per set (12.13).

The 2018 Stanford squad added four freshman to its ranks: 6-7 outside/opposite Jaylen Jasper, 6-5 outside hitter Leo Henken, 6-8 middle blocker Kyler Presho-Hartung and 6-4 outside JP Reilly.
