Russia Outlasts Japan, Dominican Republic Snaps Seven-Match Skid

Twenty blocks and four double-digit scoring efforts lifted Russia past Japan to close out both teams’ Volleyball Nations League slate. In a fairly even match, 27 Polish errors helped the Dominican Republic to a four-set win, snapping a seven-match losing skid.

Poland Sweeps, Japan Outlasts Dominican Republic in 5

After falling behind 2-1 in the match, Japan dug deep and pulled out two deuce sets for the win over the Dominican Republic. Poland put up 10 blocks and served up nine aces in a crushing sweep of Russia on Wednesday.

Italy Tops China 3-1; Japan Eliminates Argentina from Contention

Japan was just too much for Argentina offensively, registering 15 more kills, in a sweep, which mathematically eliminated Argentina from Final 6 contention. Paola Egonu and Miryam Fatime Sylla paced Italy with double-digit scoring efforts as the Italians issued top-ranked China their first loss in Pool 12.

Japan Edges Italy in 5 Sets; China Sweeps Argentina in VNL Pool 12

Italy outscored Japan 107 to 105 and bested its foe in kills, blocks and aces, but committed 53 errors in a five-set loss on Tuesday. Meanwhile, China dominated the net with 18 blocks in a sweep of Argentina to open Week 3 of VNL play.
