Turkey Beats Netherlands In 5 Sets For Pool C2 Dominance

Turkey won its third straight match at home in Pool C2, outlasting the Netherlands in five sets to finish atop the pool.

Turkey def. Netherlands 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 24-26, 17-15)

Turkey got a whopping 28 points from Metin Toy to outlast a tough Netherlands team in five sets, finishing a perfect 3-0 in the pool and tied with China at 7 points apiece.

The Dutch couldn’t handle the Turkish serving attack, with Turkey knocking down 12 service aces to just 3 from the Netherlands. That helped Turkey overcome 30 errors and getting outblocked 8-11.

The Netherlands saw Wouter Ter Maat scored 26 and Thomas Koelewijn 14, but got outspiked 62-73.

China def. Egypt 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22)

China routed Egypt, avenging an opening-round loss to Turkey by going 6-1 over its next two matches to earn a share of the pool lead at 7 points.

China crushed winless Egypt in all major statistical categories: spikes (43-42), blocks (7-2), service aces (4-2) and had less errors (14 to 21). Chuan Jiang had 13 points and Binglong Zhang 11.

Egypt did get 14 points from Ahmed Abdelhay and 10 from Mohamed Masoud in the loss.
