Vital Heynen Is Learning Polish To Better Communicate With His Players

We have fully documented Vital Heynen‘s transition into Poland’s Men’s National Team head coach so far. And to our surprise, it has been interesting, as Heynen never fails to surprise us with his pro-activity on the job. After learning that he had already met with over 20 prospects for the national team and given then a through explanation of his plans for the team, it was fun to see that he had also invited Wilfredo Leon to train with the team even though he is only set to debut for the red and white squad in July of 2019.

Heynen is clearly a different kind of character. What else was to be expected of a coach that makes sure his players and himself go sightseeing in international competitions and always empathizes the human aspect of his job? Much to the advantage of Polish players, Polish national teamer Bartlomiej Boladz, who plays under Heynen domestically for German club VfB Friedrichshafen, has made public to the media that Heynen, a Belgian national, is actually learning the Polish language in order to better communicate with his new pupils:

I must admit I’m surprised at how fast Vital is learning individual words. From the moment he was announced on the team, he has been asking us for help in the language. Knowing about his character a little, I think he will quickly learn our difficult language.”

We hope that Heynen’s initiatives is rewarded with a successful run at his future tournaments with the Polish squad, which this year includes the FIVB League of Nations and the FIVB World Championship.
