Brazilian national team’s starting setter and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Dani Lins has just given birth to baby Lara, her first daughter, this weekend. She commemorated the fact with fans:
“I was very relaxed until getting to the hospital, then I became very nervous. I was so anxious, thinking that soon Lara would be here. We were so used to being us three, Sidão, our dog, and me, and now we will be four.
This will be the happiest night of our lives from now on. I am very happy for this blessing from God. Our princess arrived at this world full of health and the best thing of it all is that I wasn’t away from her for a single moment, as the hospital’s staff kept her with me at all times.”
Dani Lins‘ husband, Sidnei Júnior (Sidão), who is likewise a volleyball player and an Olympic silver medalist, also shared his feelings with fans:
“I didn’t sleep at all. It has been two days since I have been nervous at all times. I have slept better before my Olympic final.
There she is! Another dream coming true. Thanks for all the messages, we are exploding with happiness. I was very nervous during labor, but am ready to go through it all again for another baby. I just wanted to keep kissing, hugging, and smelling her. I think it is too early to say if she looks like Dani or me, but I hope she looks like Dani, who is beautiful. Kisses to all.”
Dani Lins will now have six months to recover and fight for her starting spot in Brazil’s national team for the 2018 FIVB World Championship to be played in Japan later in the year. As of now, Fabíola Souza is the favorite to lead the team, but Dani should get a fair shot from coach Roberto José de Guimarães. She is also the favorite to replace Carli Lloyd in Guimarães’ Hinode/Barueri if the Team USA standout leaves for Europe at the end of her contract.
