This has been a huge week for Georg Grozer‘s career. After his transfer to Zenit St. Petesburg was announced, he also confirmed his return to the German national team ahead of the WCH after taking a break from the team during the VNL. He is already training with the team and will suit up against for squad’s friendlies against Brazil (CEV.lu):

“I used the break to recharge my batteries and spend quality time with my family. That was important to me this summer. However, now I am looking forward to the training and the games with the boys. To say it openly, it is the start of our preparation for the next season. Therefore, I feel a great desire to play in the friendly matches against Brazil and I look forward to that.”

Arguably one the most successful German volleyball players of all time, Grozer’s has only good memories of the last WCH in 2014, when he netted Germany a bronze medal, the first for a German team in the competition since East Germany claimed gold in 1970. Grozer carried the team, scoring more than 5 points per set for the whole tournament. He followed that performance with another masterpiece in 2017, as he led Germany’s squad to a silver medal finish at that year’s EuroVolley, once again scoring in excess of 5 points per set. Can lightning strike three times?
