Jersey Fashion: Forza Azzurri vs. Allez Les Bleus at the same time?

  0 Jeremy Brahm | June 19th, 2017 | FIVB World League

In Friday’s match in Antwerp between Italy and France, both teams entered the court wearing their blue jersey. You might be thinking, doesn’t the FIVB require that one team wear a different jersey?

The answer to that question is of course yes. Teams are required to have three different combinations, two of which have to be white or a dark shade (blue or black is most common). As Italy was designed the home team for this match at a neutral site, they were allowed to wear their light blue jerseys.

However, when the match started both teams were wearing blue as you can see in the cover shot. France as the visitor had to wear a different color by FIVB rules.

As soon as the first technical time out started, you can see that they are throwing French red jerseys to the players as they walk to the bench.

The courtside cameraman followed the players to the end of the bench and you can see them swapping colors. The players kept their shorts on so the French were not the monocolor that we are used to seeing.

The Liberos swapped from red to blue and the jersey were dropped by the traveling manager in a pile.

And when France reentered the court, all was fine with the world.

During the break between the 1st and 2nd sets, the French players swapped shorts to all red (blue for the liberos).
