16 Teams Earn Spots in AVP Chicago Main Draw after Qualifying

Sixty-four men’s teams and 36 women’s faced off in Thursday’s qualifying bracket trying to earn a spot in the AVP Chicago main draw. At the end of the day, Sarah Sponcil/Terese Cannon moved on in their first tournament together and Bruno Amorim/Skylar del Sol were the lone men’s team to make it through in straight sets.

Tri Bourne Makes Return After 18 Months Off at AVP Manhattan Beach

Friday’s AVP Manhattan Beach Open slate marked the return of Tri Bourne, after an 18-month battle with an autoimmune disorder, and also saw the top three seeds in the men’s and women’s brackets stay alive in the winner’s bracket. The No. 5 seeds on both sides also picked up three wins each.

Action began at the San Francisco Open on Thursday with 44 men’s teams and 38 women’s pairs vying for four spots per gender in the main draw.

Eight Teams Move on To AVP New York Open Main Draw

In a stacked qualifying pool, only four teams per gender advanced through Thursday’s matches into the main draw. Seeds 2, 3, 5 and 9 made it through on the women’s side, while No. 1 qualifier Melissa Humana-Paredes/Sarah Pavan were knocked out. On the men’s side, seeds 1, 2, 4 and 6 advanced, including top seed Ty Loomis/Piotr Marciniak.
