France and Brazil were the top two teams in pool play, the Final Six and now after both won semifinal matches, they meet up for the 2017 FIVB World League Championship. Although France has the better overall record, the Brazilian side will host the title match.

France went 8-1 in pool play and now sit at 11-1 overall following their Final Six and semifinal victories. They last won the event in 2015 – coincidentally a year where France defeated the Brazilians on their journey to the title and won the event in Brazil. Stephen Boyer has been a force this tournament and is tied for the top scorer (56 points) in the final stage.

The Brazilians finished pool play at 6-3 before sweeping their Final Six group matches and defeating Team USA in the semifinal round. In total, they’ve won six straight matches coming into this one. It will be their fifth World League final in seven years. However, they have finished as the runner-up the last four attempts in the final match.

11 years ago, this was also the championship match at World League. Brazil won that one in five sets over the French side. The two nations also battled in the semifinals last year, when Brazil won in four sets.
