A few hours before their last regular season game against JF Vôlei, Corinthians‘ players, led by 2016 Olympic Games MVP Sérgio Santos, took part in a charity event for underprivileged Guarulhos kids. The event was attended by about 1700 infants, and had the players cook them hamburgers with fries. They also played a volleyball match with the kids afterwards in an improvised court (Globo.com).

The event, which’s name can be loosely translated to “Kindness Cookout” is a monthly gathering that distributes food and recreations to kids all over Guarulhos city. Its organization committee states that by participating, volunteers can have the opportunity of experiencing changing a kid’s life, if even for a day, by giving them their time and, indirectly, the most delicious meal of their last couple of days, if not ever. As a consequence, one of the event’s slogan is “It looks like a hamburger, but it is really a heart.”

The Corinthians brand is by far the most powerful sporting force in the state of São Paulo. Its soccer club boasts about 27 million supporters out of a total state population of about 47 million. It’s easy to see, then, why the kids were so excited in having Corinthians‘ volleyball players sharing this moment with them.
