Dutch national team player Jasper Diefenbach answered the age old question of what is the difference between beach and indoor volleyball other than the surface?

Diefenbach told the FIVB that beach volleyball requires players to be well-rounded in all skills, whereas the indoor game is about specialization. He also talked about why you typically don’t see middle blockers playing the beach game.

Diefenbach is the captain of the Dutch national team and has played in 94 matches for the squad his making his debut. The middle blocker played with Nantes in the French league in 2016-17.

The Dutch are 4-2 in Group 2 of World League play. Diefenbach has posted 12 blocks (0.50 per set) to rank 10th among blockers thus far in Group 2 action.

The Netherlands takes on Korea on Friday. The match is streaming live here.
