2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD GRAND PRIX – GROUP 1
- Group 1, Pool I1
- July 7th – August 6th
- Cuiabá, Brazil
- FIVB World Grand Prix Round 1, Week 3
- Schedule/Results
The third week of Group 1 starts with Brazil taking on Belgium, in what will be a home match for the South American side. With just one more week of pool play before the final six, this is one of three final impressions a team has to change its positioning.
Brazil needs a good week to make the cut for the final six as they continue their quest to defend the 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix title. They’re currently in seventh place with a 3-3 record (nine points), and sit one win behind third through sixth. With second-place Netherlands and third-place USA on the horizon, the Brazilians need this win to get off their first losing streak in the event since 2007 and keep up their chances of a playoff berth.
The European side has something totally different to play for – avoiding relegation. Belgium is the only winless team remaining in Group 1, although they forced a five-set match in their previous outing with the Dominican Republic. They’ll need to score a win this week – maybe more – to pull themselves out of the Group 1 cellar.
These two nations met earlier back in each team’s first match of the tournament. Brazil won that won 3-0 as Ana Carolina Da Silva scored 11 points that included six kills (on 11 swings) and five blocks. Brazil out-blocked Belgium in that match 15-3.
