2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD GRAND PRIX – GROUP 1
- Group 1 Final Six
- August 2nd-6th, 2017
- Nanjing, China
- FIVB World Grand Prix, Group Play of Final Six
- Schedule/Results
After Italy’s 3-1 win over the United States yesterday, both the Serbians and Italians are secured a spot in the semifinal round, with Team USA getting eliminated. They match-up though for the first time in the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix with the winner claiming the Pool K1 win and being awarded with playing the Pool J1 second-place team in the semifinals.
Serbia has been the top team in the entirety of the tournament thus far. They collected seven wins and 22 points, both more than any other country, in pool play. Including their five-set win over the United States, they have an overall 8-2 record – still the best of the competition.
Italy had a rough start, going 0-2 after a loss to the United States. From then on, they got hot and won six straight matches before falling to Thailand in a match that didn’t affect their Final Six standing. They’re currently 7-3 overall including yesterday’s four-setter over Team USA, but with wins in seven of eight, they are the hottest team in the competition.
The idea is that the first-place team of this pool gets a slightly easier match with second-place of the other pool. It’s pretty minimal in differences though, and Pool J1 is in a similar scenario that K1 is in with two teams meeting to determine which nation finishes first and second. Regardless, this is a nice chance to keep momentum going, not to mention there is a nice sum of money for the team who wins the pool.
