2017-2018 BRAZILIAN MEN’S SUPERLIGA

Players are always looking to make volleyball as exciting as possible for their fans. Even the FIVB is looking at its athletes with questions on how to make the sport more fun. This weekend Brazilian Olympic Champions Sérgio Santos and Ricardo Lucarelli were on the stands to watch the Brazilian Basketball League All Star game and were quick to state to reporters they wishes for the same kind of event in Brazilian volleyball.

“It has been a long time since this kind of event has not been done in volleyball. It’s a pity. It’s a spectacle that put players side by side with the fans. The volleyball public deserves a spectacle worthy of itself. I need to congratulate the basketball league. There are no talks within our volleyball federation to organize something like this for us.” – Sérgio

An event like this for volleyball would be very interesting, be is that we have a lot of foreigners in Superliga, so a game which would pit them against Braziians would be fun. We should do something like this in the future, it would add a lot of value to our volleyball.” – Lucarelli

Indeed, it is very weird that basketball, which is not as popular in Brazil as in volleyball, gets its own All-Star game and volleyball does not. While Brazil has won four Olympic gold medals with its volleyball teams (2 with the women, 2 with the men), basketball didn’t even have a successful league in the country up until some years ago. But again, the Brazilian volleyball federation is famous for being constantly accused of corruption, which would explain the absence of such an interesting game for the volleyball crowd.
