Brazil’s Guerra Leads All Players With 68 Points In World League Play

At the conclusion of week one of the World League, Brazil’s Evandro Guerra emerged as the Best Scorer with 68 total points over the three matches in Group 1. In Group 2, Metin Toy of Turkey was just one point shy of holding the tie for the top-scorer of week one, with just 67. Group 3 didn’t have any one player that stood out among the pack, as far as scoring goes, but blocking was a main factor of points for the top three scores in Group three as they each contributed seven.

For Group’s 1 and 2, there are still three weeks of World League play, while Group 3 has just two more weeks until the end of the competition.

Guerra of Brazil overwhelmingly led the Group 1 pack with 63 kills, while four players were able to put down 11 blocks on the week. Though, ranking third in attacks, Sokolov was able to put down eight blocks over the three matches to help bring up his points total, along with five service aces.

Having the most successful attack over the course of his three matches in Group 1 was Frenchman Lyneel, who had a success rate of 65.96 percent. Lyneel was also dubbed the top server of the competition with .70 aces per set. For Brazil, Souza was named the Best Digger with 24 digs for an average of 1.85 digs per set. Brazil’s Mauricio Silva was named the Best Receiver in Group 1 with a 64.41 percent efficiency. Silva, Souza and Guerra helped Brazil to lead in three of the seven statistical categories for the first round.

Toy of Turkey was the top scorer of Group 2 with 67 total points, just one shy of tying Group 1’s leader Guerra. Toy was also able to lead in attacks with 61, followed by China’s Jiang who contributed 57 and 65 total points.

Finland’s Siirila took charge defensively at the net with 12 blocks. Slovenia’s Peter Ondrovic was most efficient from the service line with four aces and .40 aces per set.

Spain’s Villena was the main success for the team as they finished the first week of the World League undefeated. Germany also came out on unbeaten with Broshog leading the pack with 12 blocks and 1.09 blocks per set while Hirsch was deemed Best Served with 0.73 aces per set.
