2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD GRAND PRIX – GROUP 1
- Group 1, Pool G1
- July 22nd
- Hong Kong, China
- Group 1, Week 3
- Schedule/Results
With the Serbian side already locked into the final six, they still have plenty to play for as they own an opening to exact revenge on the team that defeated them in the Olympic finals. China meanwhile will join them in the next round as hosts, but will look to finish in the top six of the standings anyway.
China has gone 5-3 thus far through the tournament, good enough for sixth coming into the day. The defending Olympic Gold-Medalists had to go through Serbia in the final match, and now need to score another big win against the European side to keep their World Grand Prix going.
Serbia started the event at 6-1 before losing yesterday in five sets to Japan. Even with the negative result, they still have the best combination of wins and points in Group 1, and will present a difficult challenge for their Asian counterpart.
The match also will determine the winner of Pool G1, which presents a nice sum of money to the winner. That pales in comparison though to the 2016 Olympic rematch, as Serbia looks for revenge on China.
