Sesi/SP eliminated Sesc/RJ after handing it a 3-0 (22/25 23/25 23/25) loss behind Gustavo Bonnato’s 11 points on 5/6 (83%) hitting, including 5 blocks and 1 ace. Paulo Silva had 18 points in the losing effort. Sesi held Sesc to only 47% hitting as a team. Here is Sesi‘s captain William Arjona‘s reaction to having eliminated its best seeded rival in only three games:
“Of course we expected and prepared for a five game series, this is a phase of the competition that everyone is strong and anything can happen. Today, once again things went well, the group played well and we were left with the victory. We reached the first goal within the competition, which was to reach the finals, now we will continue to fight. I will not content myself with this, I want more.”
Sada/Cruzeiro was able to fend off elimination by handing EMS Funvic/Taubaté a 3-0 (25/20 25/19 25/17) defeat behind Yoandy Leal‘s 14 points on 13/18 (72%) hitting. No Taubaté player reached double figures. Cruzeiro hit 65% from the field as a team while holding Taubaté to a 48% effort. Evandro Guerra reacted to Cruzeiro‘s series saving win:
“We need three games to win the series. We won the first. Unfortunately, we did not play well in the first two games. Taubaté is a very good team. Today, we’ve improved. Let’s go to Taubaté with everything now. Today, our whole game flowed. We came in with more strength. It’s hard to talk about grit for us, we are professionals, and we get paid for this. But we came in more willingly, bitten because we lost the first two games. That hurt.”
