An Inside Look at French Setter Benjamin Toniutti

Humility is par for the course for French setter Benjamin Toniutti, who was quick to point out the many others who excel at his position when asked if he was the world’s best.

The player, who was named best setter at the 2016 and 2017 Polish Cup and at the 2016 Summer Olympics European qualification, went on to talk about his position and how the job becomes easier when you are surrounded by talented players.

Toniutti also discussed his team’s June 11 World League match against the United States, including the dominance of the American serve and block.

In the end, however, it was the French who came away with the 3-1 victory, one that meant a lot in the face of a tough match.

France won 25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 25-21 to remain undefeated at 6-0 in the competition and earn the first spot in the World League Final Six. France hadn’t beaten the Americans in three years as the U.S. won a four-setter in the World League last year and won in four in the 2016 Rio Olympic preliminary round.
