  • Schedule/Results

Netherlands and the Dominican Republic square off to begin both nation’s 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix schedule. It will be a home match for Netherlands, who will look to start on the right foot as they try to finish better than their top three finish last year.

The Dutch side finished third in the 2016 World Grand Prix as they lost to eventual champion Brazil in the semifinals. They eventually defeated Russia in five sets in the third-place match for their second ever medal in the event. Netherlands also bowed out to another eventual tournament winner in 2016, as China was victorious in the semifinal round of the Olympics.

The Dominican Republic don’t have the same experience in Group 1, as they were in Group 2 in the 2016 World Grand Prix. They maximized their opportunities by winning the second group to earn promotion to Group 1 this year. They’re currently on a seven-match winning streak in the competition heading into this one.

Netherlands is undefeated in the FIVB World Grand Prix series with the Dominican Republic, as they’ve won all previous four matches. This begins the 2017 run for the Dutch, who have won the event one time (2007). The Dominican Republic’s best finish was eighth place back in 2010.
