Pool G1 has a tough lineup for week three, including #1 seeded Serbia, who has just one loss so far this World Grand Prix. Rounding out the rest of the pool is China, Japan and Russa. The teams feature a number of prominent players that were on the squad for the 2016 Rio Olympics, making this is a tough pool.

Serbia has been backed by Brankica Mihajlovic, who was week one’s player of the week. So far in the competition, Mihajlovic has posted 102 points. No one else on the Serbian team has posted numbers anywhere close to Mihajlovic, with Stefana Veljovic being the closest with 48 points. This could pose a problem for Serbia later on in the tournament, as many other teams have other players to back them up.
For China, they are now getting their footing in the tournament, as they bring back Zhu Ting more full time on the court. Ting sat out much of the first week due to fatigue over the past season. Since rejoining full-time, Ting has posted 53 points for the Chinese squad. In her absence, Xinyue Yuan stepped up for China, posting 70 points.
Japan has been carried by Sarina Koga who has 100 points so far in the Grand Prix. The next highest scorer for the Japanese team is Risa Shinnabe with 64. Japan will need to rely on these two players along with solid passing to keep up in Pool G1.
Finally, Russia has been a struggling team in the World Grand Prix, having a record of 2-4. In the first week, Russia reached five-sets with every team they faced but was unable to seal the deal. Week two was a more productive week for the Russians, as they started to gain some momentum, winning two matches. Leading the team in scoring is Irina Voronkova with 81 points.
