Nobody could have expected that 3rd and 4th seeds Sesi and Taubaté, respectively, would open up their playoff series against powerhouses Sesc and Cruzeiro in such a dominating fashion. They left their opponents no chance and cruseid to 3-0 victories. They now will have the chance to close the series with a sweep on 04/13.
Recaps
- EMS Funvic/Taubaté beat Sada/Cruzeiro 3-0 (25/21 25/22 25/23) behind Wallace Souza‘s monster 26-point-performance on 21/34 (62%) hitting. Isac Santos had 12 points in the losing effort. Wallace preached caution after the team went up 2-0 in the series:
“This was our second big step. But I’ll still say the series is wide open. Playing at their house is difficult. We had a difficult 3 to 1 there. The third game will be no different. We have to remain focused. We have to celebrate this victory, but keep our feet on the ground.”
- Sesi/SP beat Sesc/RJ 3-0 (27/29 22/25 24/26) behind Alan Souza‘s 13 points. Paulo Silva had 20 points in the losing effort. Sesi only committed 12 erros in the three sets of play, while Sesc had 24. William Arjona was chosen as the match’s MVP:
In a collective game and with the players we have, the prize can be given to anyone at any time. Everyone is considered the best of the game for me. But I’m happy with what team presented. We knew how to play the game. The most important, undoubtedly, before the trophy, is the result, which puts us in a position to try to solve the series already in the next game
Sesc‘s coach Giovana Gávio recognized his opponent’s superiority:
-We were not competent in the important moments, in converting the points in the decisive moments, and they went ahead and managed to leave with the victory. We demanded the best of Sesi-SP. The guys played well. Alan did very well, the Lipe is playing maybe better than at the Olympics. There are times we have to ask our players for improvement, but there are also times that we must clap for the opponents.
