Turkey’s Yildirim: “Volleyball Only Sport You Play Against Gravity”

Fatma Yildirim of the Turkish women’s national team began her volleyball career when she was just 10 years old. At her school, Yildirim participated with volleyball, basketball and swimming. Overall, she did not enjoy basketball because of the running involved and had to decide between volleyball and swimming, choosing volleyball in the end.

Yildirim has dabbled with indoor and beach volleyball for about three years but ultimately found her home on the indoor court.

What she likes the most about being an outside for the Turkish team is that she is able to do anything on the court, whether it’s crushing down a kill to passing and blocking, she is doing it all. Yildirim also mentions that volleyball is the only sport that you play against gravity.

The Turkish team missed making the FIVB World Grand Prix finals. Yildirim produced 51 points for Turkey in the competition on 42 kills, five blocks and four aces.
