The U.S. Women’s National Team secured a berth to the final six of Group 1 at the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix by defeating Belgium earlier today. They became the second team to clinch, as Serbia did so earlier in the day with a sweep of Russia.

That means that just four spots remain, as four teams have just one match left while the other eight have a pair. That final quartet of teams will be determined from a pool of six teams who all have four or five wins thus far.

USA DEF. BELGIUM 3-1 (25-14, 16-25, 25-19, 26-24)

Team USA now holds a 6-2 record as they have just one match remaining in pool play. It was important to score today’s win and clinch a spot in the final six because tomorrow’s match against Brazil will be difficult against the host of the pool. The Americans have now bounced back with two consecutive victories after they lost two in a row.

Madison Kingdon led the Red, White and Blue in the big victory with 18 points (16 kills, two blocks), while Kelly Murphy added 15 points (14 kills on 27 swings, one block).

SERBIA DEF. RUSSIA 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-19)

Serbia remains the only one-loss team in the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix after sweeping Russia, but more importantly the win cements their status in the final six.

Brankica Mihajlovic led the team in kills during the match (14), while Milena Rasic gave Serbia 18 points, six blocks and three aces to go with her nine kills (on 12 swings).
