A chance for promotion and a gold medal in Group 2 at the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix is on the line as Korea takes on Germany in the first semifinal of the group.

Korea’s lone loss thus far came in five sets to Bulgaria, as six of their eight wins came in straight sets, including the past three. They feature one of the tournament’s top servers in Yeum Hye Seon, who led all teams in Group 2 with 0.55 aces per set in addition to one of the best scorers in Kim Yeon Koung, who led the group with 147 points in pool play.

Germany is riding an eight-match winning streak after an opening match loss to Korea to kick-off the tournament. They’ve also rolled out 18 consecutive set victories, a team-record for Germany in the competition.

These two sides were the top two nations in the three weeks of pool play, as each won eight of nine matches. Korea had the slight edge atop Group 1 as they notched 25 points to Germany’s 23. The Korean side also owns the series in World Grand Prix history, 8-3, including an opening weekend four-set victory that stands as the European side’s only loss.
