2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD GRAND PRIX – GROUP 1

  • Group 1, Pool E1
  • July 7th – August 6th
  • Macau
  • FIVB World Grand Prix Round 1
  • Schedule/Results

The U.S. Women’s National Team meets China for a second time in as many weeks at the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix. At the very least, the match will determine who finishes in second place of Pool E1, but if Turkey can defeat Italy then the winner of this match would have a great chance to win the pool (Team USA would be guaranteed the Pool E1 victory with a win and Italian loss).

The Americans lost their first match of the tournament yesterday to Italy – although still garnered a point from the five-set loss. Overall they are in third of Group 1, but have the same amount of wins and points as first (Serbia) and second (Netherlands) as they only trail in set ratio.

China picked up a big win yesterday over Turkey to halt a two-match slide. Captain Zhu Ting has been key for China, but due to fatigue from recent club appearances and travel, she’s been limited in playing time thus far. Still though, they rank fifth in Group 1 with a 3-2 record and eight points.

It’s the reigning World Champions (USA) vs. the reigning Olympic Gold-Medalists (China) to determine who finishes week two with a winning record.
