China took down the United States in a rematch from the first week, needing five sets to do so. Team USA led in kills but the Chinese stepped up their blocking game, giving them an edge in the match.
The Chinese crew put down 15 blocks to the American’s eight in the match. The blocking effort was accomplished through a number of players, but Yi Gao led the pack with six. Xiangyu Gong and Xinyue Yuan added another three, Zhu Ting posted two and Xia Ding recorded one.
Chinese captain, Ting said, “We attacked well today and our blocking has significantly improved compared to last week’s match in Kunshan. I think this is a good all-around performance from our team.”
Ting has rejoined the Chinese lineup more full-time as compared to in week one where she participated limitedly due to fatigue. Since the first match where she was subbed in, Ting has been a starter for China helping them get back to their 2016 Rio Olympic championship form. Against the United States, Ting put down 19 points behind Yuan’s 21. In the limited time that Ting has been on the court, she has produced a total of 53 points on 48 kills, three blocks and two aces.
