Germany & Spain Come Out Undefeated In Group 3 Of World League

The first week of the FIVB World League has ended with Germany leading the way in Group three after the first three days of play. Germany and Spain were the only two teams in Group 3 to end their first week with an undefeated record, while Greece, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan ended with no wins.

Pool A3

Day One

• Qatar def. Greece 3-0, (25-20, 25-23, 25-21)

Qatar took down Greece in a quick three-set match, with Bojan Djukic leading the way with 14 points, 10 being kills and four blocks.

• Spain def. Mexico 3-0, (25-23, 25-23, 25-21)

Spain outplayed Mexico for the first-day win. Andres J. Villena led the Spaniard’s with 17 points, with 14 kills and three blocks.

Day Two

• Mexico def. Greece 3-1, (25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21)

Mexico led in almost all statistical categories on their way to the four-set win over Greece. Mexico put down 51-41 kills, 11-9 blocks and 8-2 ace serves. Daniel Vargas led the team with 20 points, while Jorge Barajas added another 19 for the Mexican squad.

• Spain def. Qatar 3-1, (25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 25-13)

Spain took down Qatar in a four-set match up, leading in kills 56-41. Leading the Spaniards was Sergio Noda Blanco with 19 points, while Andres J. Villena added another 17.

Day Three

• Mexico def. Qatar 3-0, (25-17, 27-25, 25-21)

Mexico dominated the attack against Qatar, with a 45-28 kills advantage. Daniel Vargas led the Mexican crew once again with 15 kills, while Jorge Barajas was close behind with 14.

• Spain def. Greece 3-1, (25-21, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23)

Spain came out on top of a tough test against Greece in the final match of Pool A3. Francisco J. Ruiz led the team with 21 points.

Day One

• Estonia def. Chinese Taipei 3-2, (23-25, 26-24, 25-17, 20-25, 15-12)

In a tight five-set battle, Estonia captured their first win of the World League over Chinese Taipei. Leading Estonia was Andrus Raadik with 19 points.

• Montenegro def. Tunisia 3-2, (18-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-27, 15-9)

Montenegro outlasted Tunisia in a five-set match up with Milos Culafic dominating play with 25 points, including 19 kills, five blocks and one service ace.

Day Two

• Tunisia def. Estonia 3-1, (18-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21)

Tunisia was able to oust Estonia in four sets, with Renee Teppan leading the pack with 17 points.

• Montenegro def. Chinese Taipei 3-1, (25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 26-24)

Service aces and blocks are what led Montenegro to their victory over Chinese Taipei, as they led in the categories 15-10 blocks and 6-1 aces. Chinese Taipei put down 52 kills to Montenegro’s 44. Leading Montenegro was Bozidar Cuk with 18 points, 12 being kills, four blocks and two aces.

Day Three

• Tunisia def. Chinese Taipei 3-1, (19-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-15)

Tunisia fought to take down Chinese Taipei in four sets with a 12-7 block advantage and 8-4 in serves. Hamza Nagga led the winning side with 19 points while Chokri Jouini added another 17.

• Estonia def. Montenegro 3-0, (25-18, 25-16, 25-13)

Estonia dominated their match over Montenegro with 37-21 kills, 13-2 blocks and 6-1 service aces. Leading Estonia was Robert Taht with 18 points.

Day One

• Austria def. Venezuela 3-0, (25-0, 25-0, 25-0)

Venezuela failed to show up for their match against Austria, giving them a 3-0 victory for the debut match of the World League.

• Germany def. Kazakhstan 3-0, (25-17, 25-16, 25-22)

Germany crushed Kazakhstan in a three-set sweep for their opening match of the World League. The German side led with 35-26 kills, 15-6 blocks and 7-2 service aces. Simon Hirsch led the team with 19 points, 12 being kills, four blocks and three aces.

Day Two

• Venezuela def. Kazakhstan 3-1, (25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22)

Venezuela made a comeback from their first match forfeit to take down Kazakhstan in four. The Venezuelan team posted 66-50 kills and 10-5 aces, while Kazakhstan held strong with 9-2 blocks. Leading the Venezuelan side was Emerson Alexander Rodriguez Gonzalez with 22 points while Ronald Jose Fayola Hurtado added another 21.

• Germany def. Austria 3-1, (22-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-23)

Germany fought through a tough four-set match with Austria to take their second win in the tournament. Ruben Schott led the German team with 17 points while Christian Fromm added another 16.

Day Three

• Austria def. Kazakhstan 3-1, (25-22, 21-25, 25-11, 25-17)

Austria rallied from their second-day loss to take down Kazakhstan in four-sets with Paul Buchegger dominating the court with 24 points, 18 of which were kills, five blocks and one ace.

• Germany def. Venezuela 3-1, (25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14)

Germany concluded the first round of the World League with a win over Venezuela, to end with a perfect record. The German team led with 51-43 kills, 13-5 blocks and 6-2 service aces. Leading the winning teamwas Christian Fromm with 14 points.
