2017 FIVB WORLD LEAGUE – GROUP 1

Pool H1, featuring the United States, Russia, Poland and Iran, kicked off round three of World League action in Katowice, Poland, yesterday.

The United States defeated Iran via sweep (25-17, 25-22, 30-28) and Russia topped Poland 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21), but first the Director of World League Poland, Wojciech Czayka, introduced fans and teams to the city of Katowice.

Katowice is considered the volleyball mecca of Poland. The stadium, Spodek, was created by the same architect who designed the opera house in Sydney, Australia. The venue has hosted many world championships, including one with a packed house of more than 30,000, and keeping that type of atmosphere is important to Czayka and his cohorts.
