According to Globo.com, Cruzeiro‘s Yoandy Leal was tried today by Brazil’s Sport Court system. He was let off with a warning and will be able to participate in Superliga’s finals this Saturday against Sesi-SP.
Sesi asked Leal to be tried for allegedly making offensive gestures towards Taubate’s home-crowd after Cruzeiro’s game 4 win against the team in Superliga’s semifinals. Cruzeiro took to its personal Instagram page to celebrate Leal walking free:
“Leal will be able to play the finals! And to those who complain, he will be followed by over 9 million supporters. The trial for Leal’s suspension from the finals has just ended. Like we expected, justice as done and Leal, who didn’t do anything wrong, was acquited. Reason prevailed, and any attempt to harm Cruzeiro failed. Leal will fight fiercely with the rest of Cruzeiro‘s team for their 6th Superliga title. We will go against Sesi with everything we got!”
The trial for Leal’s suspension was more political than anything, as both of Cruzeiro‘s and Sesi’s Presidents are influential politicians in Brazil. The following two final games will be Leal’s last with Cruzeiro after six years as he has agreed to sign with Italy’s Lube Civitanova for next season. It would have indeed been a pity if here were to miss his final games with the team.
