2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD GRAND PRIX – GROUP 1

  • Group 1, Pool B1
  • July 7th – August 6th
  • Kunshan, China
  • FIVB World Grand Prix Round 1
  • Schedule/Results

China will host the U.S. Women’s National Team in a match that features a pair of 2-0 teams. That means the winner will not only hold a 3-0 first week, but also win Pool B1 in the process. Additionally, it is also a rematch of the 2014 FIVB World Championship final, when the United States were victorious 3-1.

Team USA scored a three-set sweep of Italy in yesterday’s match to get three points. Before that, they had a wild comeback against Russia in which they were down 2-1, forced a fifth set and drew back from 8-3 down to win in five. So far, Kelly Murphy has been the tournament’s top scorer with 28 points.

China also had to come back against the Russian side. They didn’t have a wild comeback in the fifth, but they also trailed two sets to one. Just like Team USA, they pulled out three points from the match against Italy, as they only trail in the standings based on the set ratio tiebreaker.

Last year the United States also started 2-0, but lost their third match in four sets to China. They get another try at starting 3-0 against a team that has given them more defeats (21) in the World Grand Prix than any other nation by a wide margin (Brazil in second at 14).
