Brazilian Olympic gold medalist William Arjona‘s Sesi-SP traveled to Rio de Janeiro for its Superliga match against Sesc/RJ. William took advantage of the trip to visit a school in the city named after him: “Children’s School Olympic Medalist William Arjona,” which receives children from 6 months to 11 years old. The children organized a reception for William, who made a thank you speech, visited all the school’s classroom, talked to the children, and played a volleyball match with them. The athlete also gifted the school with a signed jersey, a volleyball, and a replica of his Olympic gold medal. He also gifted the children with t-shirts and game tickets.
Here is what he had to say of his experience (Globo.com):
“I have lived several emotions in my life, and this one without a doubt was an unforgettable one !!!! Thank you from my heart to all the warmth, reception and surprises I received today! And a special thanks to all the WONDERFUL children !! Being surrounded by children in a needy community, and seeing the smiles on their faces have no explanation. Being a recognized athlete, you have to have a legacy. Being an Olympic champion goes beyond a gold medal. To provide an education so that they may in the future have an opportunity to be someone, to do something, to be recognized, is exciting. A child is someone that moves anyone emotionally, I have two children. To be able to provide for this beautiful school is exciting.”
