2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD GRAND PRIX – GROUP 1

  • Group 1, Pool F1
  • July 7th – August 6th
  • Kaliningrad, Russia
  • FIVB World Grand Prix Round 1
  • Schedule/Results

One team has won nine of its last 10 in the FIVB World Grand Prix while another has lost five in-a-row. If you guessed the Dominican Republic would be the team trending toward the positive with Russia on a downturn, you’d be correct. Today, they face off to either continue their streaks or cut them off.

The Dominican Republic finished in second of Pool C1 last week as they finished with a winning record of 2-1. They’re also in fourth of the overall standings as they also own six points. It’s been a nice start for the Caribbean side who were in Group 2 last year, and are looking for a similar run that Canada made in the FIVB World League after making the jump in 2017.

Last week in Pool B1 Russia lost all three matches. However, they led them all 2-1 in sets before faltering in each. The bright side is that they have the maximum points (three) you could get in three losses, but if they want a chance at the final six they will need to start turning things around this week as they currently sit 10th in the 12 team table.

Russia will be looking to break a five-match losing streak today against a team they own a 12-match winning-streak against in the Dominican Republic – although this seems to be one of the nation’s better teams.
