2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD GRAND PRIX – GROUP 1

  • Group 1, Pool I1
  • July 7th – August 6th
  • Cuiabá, Brazil
  • FIVB World Grand Prix Round 1, Week 3
  • Schedule/Results

Netherlands and Brazil meet in Pool I1 with heavy implications on the final six for both sides. While the Dutch started the week 5-1 and are close to finalizing a spot to the next round, they are no guarantee. Brazil needs to win either today or tomorrow vs. USA to keep their hopes alive, with two wins possibly even being necessary depending on tiebreakers.

The Dutch fell in four sets to the United States yesterday in what was just their second loss of the tournament. They still have 0-7 Belgium tomorrow, so they will have a great chance to make the final six anyway, but a win against Brazil today would all but secure it.

Brazil is 4-3 thus far and has a strong point total for any tiebreakers. The defending World Grand Prix champions have a difficult final two-match stretch though, as they face Netherlands today and USA tomorrow – two teams in the top three of the Group 1 table.

Only one of the 21 meeting between the teams at world level have gone the Dutch way. That 3-2 victory in 2007 though came at an important time – in the World Grand Prix final round as the Netherlands would win their first and only World Grand Prix title.
