2017 FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD GRAND PRIX – GROUP 1

  • Group 1, Pool G1
  • July 7th – August 6th
  • Hong Kong, China
  • FIVB World Grand Prix Round 1, Week 3
  • Schedule/Results

Pool G1 begins with Serbia and Russia playing in Hong Kong. It’s the lone pool that features three teams in the top six coming into the week, with Russia sitting just outside of it.

Serbia is in good shape in Group 1 and is aiming for win number six. They’re currently in first of the standings as the only team with just one loss. The 5-1 start is their best to a World Grand Prix since 2013, which is also the last time in which they had a top six finish and came in third.

While the Serbian side is enjoying its best start in years, Russia sits at the opposite end of the spectrum with their worst start since 2014. They went 0-3 in week one after losing three consecutive 2-1 set leads, although they did rebound nicely last week at 2-1. Still, they have plenty of work to do if they want their 18th top six finish in 21 World Grand Prix seasons.

Serbia has won the last three meetings with Russia at world level, with the most recent meeting coming in a Serbia sweep at the 2016 Olympic quarterfinals.
