  • FIVB World Grand Prix Round 1, Week 3
  • Schedule/Results

The U.S. Women’s National Team finish off pool play with a road match against Brazil. The match represents a meeting between the latest World Grand Prix champion (Brazil) and the last World Champion (USA).

Team USA sits at 6-2 coming into the day, with two straight victories after they suffered back-to-back losses. Those two mini streaks were accompanied by a 4-0 start. Their overall resume has already earned them a spot in the final six, as the match result won’t effect the Americans standing in the playoff round.

Brazil has had a nice bounce-back week after a 1-2 stretch in week two. They’ve already matched their most World Grand Prix losses since 2010, but after winning two straight they will finish Group 1 with a winning record as they are 5-3 at the moment. With Japan’s win earlier today, this is a must-win for Brazil to keep their final six hopes alive.

The match will be a redo of last year’s World Grand Prix championship, with the South American side coming out on top in five sets. In total, eight of the last 10 have gone Brazil’s way. The meeting will also determine the winner of Pool I1, as the victor earns a nice sum of cash compared to the other three teams in the pool.
