Week 1[edit]
South Korea – 5 wins-1 loss, 16 points
Currently in first place in Group 2, South Korea will all but clinch a spot in the finals with a win against Kazakhstan. Bulgaria (11 points), Peru (9), Columbia (9) and Puerto Rico are all at 3 wins. A win in 3 or 4 sets for South Korea would take them to 6 wins and 19 points and Peru, Columbia and Puerto Rico cannot match them on points. A second win against Columbia would clinch their spot at 7 wins.
Poland – 5 wins-1 loss, 15 points
Poland is basically in the same spot as South Korea. A 3 or 4 sets win against Columbia to reach 6 wins, 18 points and Poland cannot be matched on wins by Columbia nor points by Puerto Rico. A second win against Kazakhstan would clinch their spot at 7 wins.
Germany – 5 wins-1 loss, 14 points
Germany is about the same as South Korea and Poland. A 3 or 4 set win over Canada gets them to 6 wins and 17 points. Germany does face the Czech Republic on Saturday, and a loss by Germany would possibly allow Bulgaria to have a chance on the final day. A win against the Czech Republic would clinch their spot at 7 wins.
Czech Republic – 5 wins-1 loss, 13 points (Hosts of the Finals)
Bulgaria – 3 wins-3 losses, 11 points
Bulgaria must win all three matches to even have a chance, and they must win them in less than 5 sets to maximize points. South Korea and Poland would both need to lose twice to give Bulgaria a chance. But a single Germany loss provides a better opportunity to Bulgaria as they are only 3 points behind Germany. Bulgaria does have 2 points over Peru and Columbia, and 4 points over Puerto Rico.
Peru – 3 wins-3 losses, 9 points
Peru must win all three matches and have South Korea, Poland and Germany lose two matches each. Poland and South Korea do play each other on the final day, so only one team could win. Bulgaria would also have to lose once for Peru to have a chance because of the 2 point difference. Peru do have sets ratio over Columbia at present and probably would if they tie.
Columbia – 3 wins-3 losses, 9 points
Basically Columbia is the same as Peru, but they play Poland first. A loss and they are eliminated. Plus, Peru has to play Germany on the final day, so they need a lot of help.
Puerto Rico – 3 wins-3 losses, 9 points
Must win all three matches, have Germany lose 2 or 3 times, Peru win once (against Germany), Bulgaria only win once, and Columbia only win once. Puerto Rico can only reach 16 points, so they have a really hard road to Ostrava.
