- FIVB World Grand Prix, 2nd Semifinal
With one opening left in the Group 2 final of the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix, Czech Republic takes on Poland in front of a home-crowd.
Czech Republic will be searching for their eighth win at a World Grand Prix for the first time as they collected a 7-2 record in pool play. They were 7-1 though until their final match when they fell in straight sets to another semifinal team in Germany. Now, as hosts of the final four they will look to reboot and play well in front of the home crowd.
The Polish side also holds a 7-2 record that featured a final pool play match loss – with theirs coming against the other semifinal team, Korea. Poland also has some of the top performers of pool play in Group 2 in spiker Malwina Smarzek, blocker Agnieszka Kaklewska and receiver Agata Witkowska.
A quartet of teams emerged as the clear-cut top four in pool play, as two (Korea and Germany) went 8-1, while Czech Republic and Poland went 7-2. Beyond that, everyone else had five or less wins. This will be just the second meeting at the World Grand Prix between the two nations, as Poland was the home team in 2016 when they defeated Czech Republic 3-1.
