World Grand Prix – Women

Thailand is looking to make a splash at the 2017 World Grand Prix after finishing sixth in 2016, but just missing the Olympic field. The two-time Asian champions (2009, 2013) played host to the Grand Prix Final Six in Bangkok last year.

The team looks to improve on its best ever finish – fourth in 2012 – with a roster including 16 players from the 2016 Grand Prix squad. Thailand, which is currently ranked 14th in the FIVB World Rankings, finished tied for seventh at the Montreux Masters tournament in June.

Nootsara Tomkom was named as the best setter of the 2016 Grand Prix, while Ajcharaporn Kongyot was the best server, averaging 0.45 aces per set.  Wilavan Apinyapong was the best receiver, making good on 53.85 percent of her reception attempts.

Pleumjit Thinkaow, who is acting as team captain for the second straight year, is the oldest member of the team at 33. Thinkaow has been playing for the Thai national team since 2001. Chatchu-On Moksri is the youngest member of the team at 17, born in November 1999.
