2017-2018 BRAZILIAN MEN’S SUPERLIGA

Game 2 of Superliga’s Finals delivered an amazing volleyball display to fans as a crowd of 15 thousand supporters saw Cruzeiro clinch the title after beating Sesi in a 3-2 (25/16 17/25 25/22 23/25 22/20) war. Yoandy Leal led the way for the champions with 25 points in what was his last game with the club, as he is now leaving for Italy’s Lube Civitanova. Alan Souza and Gustavo Bonnato had 16 points each in the losing effort. Cruzeiro had 46 errors as a team, while Sesi only had 29, proving once again that in modern volleyball, it’s better to make mistakes while serving hard, than trying to play it safe and making the life of your opponent’s passers easier.

Leal was chosen as the competition’s MVP. Here is what he had to say of the game:

“Today was my last game with Cruzeiro, but I’ll keep all games I’ve played here on my heart. Today was the first time I got nervous before a match in my life, maybe because of everything that is happening around me. Now that we won the title, I will organize a nice farewell. Thanks and kisses to everyone.”

Sesi‘s William Arjona, who has won numerous Superliga titles with Cruzeiro, had this to say of the loss:

“I am very happy for having reached the final. This was the most balanced series I have played in years. I am proud of my team’s performance, how we played the game. I hope to be here again, but to win. We only lost by two points. We were only two points away from closing the game, there is no secret formula.”
