Good news to volleyball fans all over the world. Thaisa Daher, who was recently signed by Barueri on a loan from Turkey’s Eczasibasi, is back to training full time, including jumping drills. The two-time Olympic gold medalist has been using Barueri’s training facilities to recover from a gruesome injury suffered while playing in the CEV Champions League for Eczasibasi. She is being carefully monitored by José Roberto Guimarães, Barueri‘s coach, and also her coach on the Brazilian national team, as she will be key piece for Brazil’s goals at this year’s FIVB World Championships.
Thaisa should be able to debut for the team before Superliga’s playoffs start. The team is currently in a slump, having lost four straight games and dropping two spots on league standings, from 4th to 6th place. It was also knocked out of the Brazilian Cup in only its first game.
The team recently signed Team USA’s standout Carli Lloyd in an attempt to salvage its Superliga debut season. She will be joining a star-studded cast that includes Thaisa herself, Polish star Katarzyna Skowronska, and two-time Olympic gold medalist and Brazilian national teamer Jaqueline Endres. Fans hope that this new Dream team, together with coach Guimaraes’ expertise, should be enough to contend against Superliga’s other superteams like Nicole Fawcett‘s Praia Clube, Bernadinho’s Sesc/Rj, and Destinee Hooker‘s Minas.
